Glad you’re here – this is a very special day, the very first interview I’m posting with a fellow Indie Author!
Today’s guest is none other than Samantha Evans, author of the Land of the Four Series, a highly-regarded YA/Fantasy collection that starts with Ella and goes through the recently-released The Other Side. Let’s see what else she has going!
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
One day waking up with an idea for a story. Wrote it down, and then I developed my first book Ella. Now it is my most successful novel on Amazon.
What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
When I work I like to work at nighttime when my children are asleep, but due to my ankle being broken I now write all the time.
What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
Developing an idea, and writing it all down
What does your family think of your writing?
They love the way I write. Due to how they know I love reading fantasy, so they were not surprised that I choose fantasy as a genre to write.
Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Someone said this to me a few months ago, “ You are comparable to Tolkien, and Lewis.”
As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
What is the first book that made you cry?
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I love being original and create my own worlds for people to picture in their minds.
What other authors are you friends with, and how do they help you become a better writer?
I became friends with one indie author who I will not name. Who is older than me, and been writing longer. She gave me kinds of words and helped me out. Now we are friends, and I see her as a mentor.
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Creativity is a must!
What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?
Developing fantastic ads to catch the eyes of people interested in the genre.
What’s your favorite under-appreciated novel?
The Handmaid’s Tale
What are you working on now?
The second book in a two-book series. It is in the beginning process, but it is developing the way I am liking it.
What do you have coming soon?
I sent one book to my editor, and when all goes well it will be published later this month or next month.
Thank you so much for coming by!
